e that your watch is authentic, there are a number of things you should become familiar with before purchasing your watch. This should be done in order to protect your potential investment and to be sure that you are not wasting your money on a scam or otherwise illegitimate timepiece.

Some watch buyers believe that the only place from which you can safely purchase authentic timepieces is directly from the manufacturer. While thinking in this manner is one of the safest ways to make sure that you are getting ‘the real deal’, it is also one of the most expensive and sometimes themost complicated places from which an authentic watch can be purchased. Tthere are a number of alternate venues from which an individual may be able to purchase authentic watches, even those which are brand name or luxury watches. The trick to purchasing authentic watches from these alternate venues is to make sure that you are not being swindled.

One of the quickest ways to determine whether or not a seller is selling authentic watches would be to call the watch dealer and ask them if their watches are truly authentic. When you call the watch dealer, pay attention to determine whether or not you get a machine or voicemail during normal business hours or if you get a live person. If you want to email them, go over their reply to see if they have anything unprofessional about their email, which may be an indication of them not being legitimate - after all, if you had a business you would want all correspondence to be as professional as possible and this includes spelling!

Ask the potential seller if they accept credit cards as a form of payment. Most credit card companies will offer their client special protection against fraud. If the person you are in contact with will only take cash or money orders, beware! This is a sign of a scam. Also make inquiries about the company’s warranties and return policy. Most watch companies will offer warranties for at least two years and will have a thirty day return policy. It is best not to purchase from companies that have a return policy time limit of less than thirty days.

Look online for information about the individual or company from which you are considering a watch purchase. In the United States, the Better Business Bureau can provide detailed information about companies located within the country. You can also find out, using the Better Business Bureau or online search engines, how long the company has been in business. If they are a new company, you might want to be more cautious about purchasing from them - they are more likely to be a fly-by-night establishment.

eBay and other auction sites are great for finding rare and inexpensive treasures. To some, this does include authentic watches. Sellers on eBay have profiles and most have a substantial amount of feedback. Go through the feedback of potential sellers to see what their customers think of them, their service and their products! If someone has been scammed by an eBay seller, you can typically find that information in their feedback section.

In order to make sure the watches on eBay are legitimate, it is easy to send a message to the seller. Ask them the necessary questions to prove legitimacy of the watch. If the seller does not get back in touch with you and respond to your questions and comments, try finding another source from which to purchase your timepiece(s). Watches will have their own specific markings in order to prove that they are authentic. For example, diver’s watches are engraved with the word DIVER in order to make it clear that they meet the standards set forth for diving watches. The same is true for manufacturers. Each manufacturer has their own signature to prove it is legitimately one of their time pieces, such as their letter engraved on the watch. Check your watch for its serial number - it should still be intact. You can take your watch to a jeweler, who can verify whether or not it is legitimate, or call the manufacturer with the watch’s serial number in order to verify it.

Knowing what constitutes a luxury wristwatch is not as easy as it may sound. Different people consider different watches, brands and collections to be fitting of the term luxury. Watch Dealers help people out in this area because all the watches they offer to their consumers are widely considered to be luxurious. Quality wristwatches do not just tell the time to their wearers. They offer their wearers an improved quality of life. Some of these watches do not just tell the wearers the local time, they can offer times in multiple zones, the phases of the moon and when these phases occur, the time of year, precise seconds and appointment reminders. Luxury watches also offer wearers the option of passing them down as heirlooms since they are made of such high quality materials and complications. They can last generations and still function properly, making luxury watches some of the most popular ones on the market. Since the watch is able to offer so much to consumers, they are often priced fairly high. This is to cover the cost of the materials used in making the watch and, potentially, the cost of purchasing a particular brand’s wristwatch model. watch dealers are able to offer luxury watches to their consumers at discounted prices, which allows many people the opportunity to own luxury watches they may otherwise not be able to afford and own.

The Luxury Institute performed a recent survey of the top seventeen ultra luxury watchmakers. Cartier was one of the most well-known and popular luxury brands. This is just one of the brands whose watches wristwatch dealers offers. Some other luxurious watch brands offered from online watch dealers include Baume & Mercier, Blancpain, Bulova, Chanel, Gucci, Citizen, Concord, Daniel Roth, ESQ, Harry Winston, Kenneth Cole, Maurice Lacroix, Omega, Rado and Zenith. Price is not the only feature which needs to be considered when trying to find the right luxurious watch. It is also important to consider the material from which the watch is made. Since there are different categories of luxury watches, the materials can vary greatly, although the watch would still be considered a luxury good. Sports watches, diver’s watches and dress watches are all categories of wristwatches that can also be luxurious. However, dress watches are more often made from gold and silver, rather than the more durable materials used for sports or diver’s wristwatches.

Luxury watches can be purchased for one’s own self or they can be purchased as gifts for others. They made great gifts and presents for one’s self or for friends, family members and associates. Watches have been given over time by politicians to their business associates. They can be worn to in a number of different environments and are tasteful accents to a variety of outfits. Watches which are luxurious in nature have been designed not just for men, but for women as well. Whatever brand and model you are looking for can be found with the help of your local watch dealer and they can be found at an affordable price.

You can purchase discount luxury watches, including Tag Heuer’s designs at retail prices of as much as 30% to 50% off from some retailers.

Discount luxury watches are the same quality as the full priced ones, and can be sold for much less due to volume purchases by the retailers. Always be careful when purchasing discount luxury watches however. While you certainly can find authentic Swiss watches at amazing discount rates, there are also many counterfeiters selling cheap imitations of greatly inferior quality. Deal with trusted retailers to be certain you know what you are purchasing. Check with the Better Business Bureau to find out whether a company provides reputable merchandise or has customer service complaints logged against it.

Fine luxury watches such as Breitling, Ebel or Tag Heuer are expensive and beyond many people’s budget. Discount luxury watches can allow nearly everyone the ability to own one of these exceptional timepieces, but keep in mind- you won’t find an authentic Swiss timepiece for $100. Use common sense when shopping for discount luxury watches and you just might be able to surprise someone with a very special gift during the upcoming holidays.

01(k) losing their value and stocks plummeting like a malfunctioning rollercoaster the last thing on most people’s minds is deciding whether or not to invest in a luxury timepiece. However, history of this unique collectible category has proven that fine watches are a resilient, timeless investment - even in difficult markets such as the one we are currently experiencing.

What it may be a GOOD time to buy a luxury watch

It should come as no surprise that the fine watch world is in the midst of one of the greatest buyer’s market in history. People who need cash are willing to part ways with their expensive watches at a fraction of their actual value. However, as we will see, one person’s loss can be another’s gain.

For the astute buyer (especially those who spend a good amount of time shopping online) there are tremendous bargains to be found in the luxury watch market. Consider that a recent survey by online discount watch websites found that many $10,000 timepieces are currently being sold for $5,000 - and that $5,000 classic Rolex and Piaget watches are regularly being offered for as little as $2,500. It is hard to argue with these kinds of figures, especially given that the quality of the watches coming out of the best companies has remained unchanged.

This is a good time to buy a luxury watch for two reasons. First, if you are a reseller or a collector, the current climate represents an opportunity to make a profit down the road once the economy begins to grow again and individuals have more cash at the disposal. Secondly, if you have ever wanted to possess a prestigious watch - and never had the resources to do so - this may be the best opportunity you ever had to own a magnificent timepiece.

An investment that never goes out of style

Unlike luxury carmakers, who dilute the prestige of the own brand by selling lower-end versions of their cars, every item that comes out of top watch companies represents the pinnacle of excellent performance and design. As a result, there are no “down years” to worry about in terms of makes and models of watches. Every watch released every year is considered a good personal investment - and a show of good taste.

Luxury watches mean investing in the “intangibles”

In addition, there are elements of purchasing a luxury watch that cannot be measured in dollars and cents. For example, wearing a fine Rolex or Tag Heuer watch has the ability to boost one’s confidence immensely. It can change the way people see us - as well as the way we present ourselves to others.

Finally, the watch-as-family heirloom tradition is something that is most certainly recession-proof. It does not matter what the current Dow Jones average is when a man hands his fine Rolex watch to his son. It is a rich, emotional transition that makes purchasing a top timepiece all the more attractive.

nternational economic woes, the higher end luxury side of the watch business looks like it is in rather decent shape. As for market trends, automatic timepieces are slowly recapturing market share. And while rose gold is still strong, cheaper stainless steel is gaining popularity especially when it is occasionally made a bit more elegant with the adding on of diamonds. And size-wise, wristwatches continue getting larger with 48 and 49-millimeter timepieces becoming increasingly common, despite the claims of some who say that the large watch trend has reached its peak. On the negative side, some Industry watchers have noted that economic concerns have sent a few “aspirational” brands with price-points between $1,000 and $3,000 into a troubled position. Also on the down side, Andrew Talbert, the C.O.O. of LGI Network, said that watch sales dropped dramatically: roughly 20 percent in September and October of 2008. Mr. Talbert notes that he thinks almost every price point has been hit hard except for two: the highest of the high end of twenty-five thousand dollars and up (because people in that bracket still have cash to spend), and the five hundred to eight hundred dollar range which has only fallen off slightly (possibly because some manufacturers have brought diamonds into that lower price range, which has not happened before). Talbert went on to note that even though the total quantity of watches sold has fallen, the average retail price rose from $758 in September 07 to nearly $890 this past September, almost 18% in one year. There are a few watch industry insiders who are predicting major changes at brand levels. Specifically, Middle-priced women’s timepieces are not doing well and neither are the very lowest price points?meaning a few brands will probably have to develop new strategies and perhaps try to reinvent themselves. The president of Roger Dubuis North America, Mr. Ronald Wolfgang, a longtime insider in the luxury watch business has suggested that perhaps repositioning is a good idea for some brands. He also said that higher priced wristwatches should be a bit easier to move than the lower priced models. He finally noted that young, wealthy, fashion aware watch buyers will remain interested in purchasing bigger watches with lots of complications. On the watch size front, another industry insider, John Pember, from Howard From Jewelers in Chicago, says that he thinks watches will continue to get bigger. He claims that of the sixty watches he currently has in stock, forty-five of them are oversized. On the other hand, the vice president of Topper Jewelers in California, Mr. Rob Caplan, states that he has seen a trend back to wristwatches that are large but not necessarily enormous. His reason for thinking this: Daniel Craig. Mr. Craig, the latest film actor to play James Bond wore a 42-mm Omega Seamaster in the 2008 film “Quantum of Solace” and thus Caplan asserts, because such a “strapping guy” wore a 40-42 mm watch in the movies, the buying public will follow his lead.

Purchasing a luxury watch is as much of a treat as it is a necessity. There is a wide array of watches you can opt to purchase, but having something as magnificent as a luxury watch requires care and attention. Because of this, there are several things you can and should be doing to extend the life of your watch.

Proper care and maintenance of the watch will help you not only extend the life, but also help keep it in pristine condition. There is too much money put into a watch of this quality to let it go to waste by not taking care of it. Everything from keeping it in the right temperatures to storing it when not in use should be taken into consideration.

The first thing you have to realize when caring for a luxury watch is that every watch is different from one another. Therefore, each watch should be attended to differently. Every watch will come with an instruction manual that will include instructions for how to properly care for your particular watch. It is essential that you pay close attention to these details after making your purchase.

One of the many things you should focus on is the water resistance. There is a wide array of water resistances that watches have. If you do not plan on wearing the watch in water then this is not important to you. But the last thing you want to do is ruin a quality watch by taking it too deep in water.

Not only should is water resistance a concern, but salt water can ruin a perfectly good watch as well. Salt water can cause corrosion making it vital to get your watch looked at if you do come in contact with salt water.

Aside from water, temperature is another area of concern with luxury watches. You should never leave your watch in extreme heat or cold for an extended period of time. Extreme heat tends to shorten the battery life while extreme cold temperatures can cause the watch to not keep track of time efficiently.

Lastly, try to avoid contact with any chemicals, solvents or gases while wearing your watch. There are a number of problems that these can cause to your watch including discoloration, deterioration and damage to the watch. While most household appliances are ok, static electricity can cause damage to your watch as well.

There are many things you can do to extend the life of a luxury watch, but these are a few basic rules to follow. It is certainly not a cheap price to pay for a luxury watch which makes it essential that you take the time and consideration to care for your watch.
